Authorities say two people are dead after a shooting at a Wellington mosque.
Police say a man who was shot died at the scene.
Police have not released details about the shooting.
A third person was wounded.
Police say the man who died was a mosque security guard.
The shooting happened at the Faisal Al-Mansouri Mosque, in Wellington’s North Shore.
Witnesses told police that the man, who was wearing a head scarf and gloves, was standing outside when he was shot.
Witness Kari Muhrkau said the gunman opened fire.
“I saw a guy who had a mask on and a gun, and he shot him in the head,” Muhkau told Newshub.
Police said the man was shot in the leg.
The man is in a stable condition.
Police are investigating the shooting, and a number of people have been taken into custody.
The shooter was described as a white male in his late 20s, about 6 feet tall and 175 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, white pants, and black shoes.
