By Matthew HalseyA new report published by The Associated Press, shows how the Islamic Society of Saint Petersburg in the United States has been hit by two of the deadliest acts of terrorism in recent years.

The New York Times reports that a group called the Islamic Center of America was attacked with four bombs, including a pressure cooker bomb that killed eight people and injured at least 21 others.

The attack, which occurred on Oct. 19, 2016, left a large crater and damaged a mosque’s roof.

The Times also says that the mosque is now closed.

The Islamic Center Of America, a Christian church in St. Petersburg, New York, was destroyed in a bomb blast on Sunday, a spokesman for the New York-based Islamic Society said.

It was the second bombing at the mosque in less than two weeks, said Imam Ahmad Youssef, who described the incident as a “tragedy.”

The mosque is home to around 2,000 people, including about 200 Muslim students, who are studying at a nearby college.

Youssefs mosque is located in a predominately white neighborhood in the predominantly black city of Saint Petersburg.

The attack on the mosque happened at around 7 p.m. local time, the spokesman said.

A woman, identified as Yousseff, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Youssefi said.

An FBI spokesman said authorities have no suspect information.
